In February 2001, I got my first tattoo. For about 3 years, I spent my time looking for a tattoo I wanted. Little did I know that it would come to me when I stopped looking for it. One day my ex got a new watch band because her old one broke. She came home with a velcro one with a kokopelli pattern on it. I instantly loved it. I had been looking at a kokopelli tattoo I saw in a magazine, but I knew that it wasn't perfect. This pattern though, I just took to it. I can't explain it better than that. I just knew.

I scanned it into my computer and made a few changes to personalize it. I changed the color, smoothed the edges, altered the moon so it was more like a cartoon moon, and added a few musical notes. I printed it out, thought about it some more, and got it done. It was an amazing experience. I am very, very happy with it. I got it touched up, and I love it.

The symbolism of kokopelli for me is hard to describe. It connects everything about my identity I have experienced so far. It encorporates my sexuality, gender, and life goals.
